The county government of Nakuru has revealed that 10 families will be evacuated in Solai Nyakinyua village in Subukia Sub County to avert disaster from Nyaru dam which developed huge cracks and fault lines.
The locals have been depending on the dam for their farming activities.
Speaking on Wednesday after visiting the area,Nakuru County Chief Officer for disaster management Ann Njenga said, “After consultations with Geologists and engineers, they have resolved to evacuate Ten families where the fault line cuts”.
The Chief officer adding that there might be extra areas that might sink and cause extra damages.
This,even as residents are now calling on the government to purchase the affected parcels of land and develop for other activities and buy them alternative land to settle.
Area MP Samwel Gachobe on his part has urged different agencies to intervene on the matter and research on where the more than 70,000 liters from the dam went to before more damages emerge.
“This is a matter that the government should take seriously”said Gachobe.
