1350 sacks of suspected contraband sugar intercepted in Nakuru’s CBD

A multi agency team comprising of officers from the Kenya Bureau of standards,Kenya Revenue Authority and DCI on Tuesday morning intercepted more sacks of suspected contraband sugar at Kanini Haraka enterprises in Nakuru town.

1350 sacks of the brown Brazilian sugar was stashed in the main shop outlet at the central business district.

Nakuru East Deputy county commissioner Omar Haji Salat who led the operation said that they are treating the consignment as suspect until they verify details of the contents.

He said that samples have been taken for onward submission to the government chemist. Results of the tests are expected in two weeks time.

The multi agency team has also extended the raids to Menengai oil refineries limited where there are thousands of tones of suspected contraband sugar.

A go down with more sugar in Nakuru blankets estate has also been sealed off by police.

According to Salat more sugar could be finding its way into the market within Nakuru town adding that they have intensified vigilance in all the 11 sub counties.
