Cry for Help – Paralyzed since 2014, David Wachira appeals for Medical assistance

Friends and well-wishers in Nakuru and beyond have joined hands to mobilise funds for one David Wachira.

The 37-year-old David Wachira, a resident of Njoro Sub-County has since 2013 been grappling with bad health which left him paralysed in 2014.

“My life has not yet been that easy from 2014 when l was operated on at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret,” says Wachira.

In 2013, David Wachira a Bachelor of Animal Science graduate from Egerton University was diagnosed with a tumour. The tumour affected and broke his t8 and t9 vertebrae which demanded a total of 9 surgeries to rectify.

“As a wife, it was not that easy but God gave me the strength to accept everything. After the surgeries, my husband became paralysed. I had to do everything for him including feeding him. It was even worse since he was the breadwinner but now cannot leave the house. Now I am everything,” says Mrs Teresia Wachira the wife to David Wachira.

The surgeries at Mediheal Hospital cost a whopping Kshs. 500,000. The family did a Harambee and paid half the amount. They paid the rest of the money in instalments and finally managed to pay everything.

But if they thought half a million was high, what came next was even higher. Too high beyond their imaginations.

In 2016, David Wachira developed another problem. This time he developed paraplegia a condition which completely impaired the normal functioning of his legs. David was advised to go to India for treatment. However, the prohibitive cost of the treatment has to date held him back. The family needed a total of Kshs. 6,000,000 (Six million).Students of Lamurdiac High School in a walk to raise medical funds for David WachiraStudents of Lamurdiac High School in a walk to raise medical funds for David Wachira #SupportWachiraWalkAgain

To raise the funds, the family once again organised for a fundraiser. Unfortunately, they could only raise just 10% of the money. They managed to raise Kshs. 500,000/= only.

“The doctor advised me to continue taking the medicine to reduce the growth in my both legs,” says Wachira a father of two; a son and a daughter.

Wachira says the drugs he uses are very expensive but has had to use them for the last one year and 4 months.

When the doctor from India came to Kenya, he told David that he would require 5 surgeries.

“I have to undergo 5 surgeries. One for stem cell to make my nerves active and the other 4 to open up my both knees and hips because they cannot fold,” says Wachira.

“I am asking people of good will to stand with me send their contributions to this M-pesa Paybill number 536733 Account name David,” says David.

Friends helping him in raising funds towards his medical bill have also set up an M-Changa account to bring in more people to assist.
