Several families in Kiamunyi, Nakuru County are counting loss worth Kshs 4.8 million this after their houses were demolished by Kenya National Highway Authority-KENHA on grounds that they were constructed on Road reserve.
The irate residents however say they were not given any notice before the move was taken and that the houses had not been marked to show that they are occupying Road reserve.
Engineer S.N Kirika –one of the landlords who have incurred loss following the demolition says he was not given any notice over the same.He says he will be moving to court to challenge the move which he termed ill motivated.
“I was not given any notice and as such I will be moving to court to challenge the same” he said.
Similar sentiments echoed by Peris Njuguna- a victim said that they were not issued with a notice nor had KENHA marked any of the houses. Anne Njagi- a tenant said that she was called by neighbors and informed that her house was being brought down.
“It was painful to see valuable property being destroyed yet you had worked so hard to purchase the same” she said.
Efforts to get response from KENHA bore no fruits as corporate officer based in Nairobi did not pick calls nor answer messages.
