All industries within Nakuru will be required to provide a medical cover for its workers if a bill seeking the same that has been adopted by county assembly will sail through.
The bill was authored and tabled by Subukia MCA Mary Waiganjo.
The MCA noted that that there are rising cases of casuals struggling to pay huge hospital bills once accidents happen in line of duty.
“This Bill will help address the challenges that the workers have been facing in the industries in Nakuru” said Mca Waiganjo.
The vocal Subukia MCA noting that several firms in the county have failed to comply with the safety laws as provided in article 41(1) of the constitution that every worker has a right to reasonable working conditions. While seconding the Bill, Maela Mca Gathariki Kamanu stressed the need to have the heavy burden on casuals lifted.
“The Bill will go a long way in addressing the heavy burden that has been bestowed on casualties” said Mca Kamanu.
The Bill will now be tabled at the implementation committee for discussion, thereafter it will be tabled at the county assembly where the MCAs will either vote in favor or against the bill.If the governor assents to that bill, hundreds of casuals working within Nakuru county will breathe a sigh of relief.
