A stern warning has been issued to those ilegally dumping waste on the perimeter fence of Bondeni Primary school in Nakuru east sub county that they risk facing the strict arm of the law.
Addressing media on Saturday during a cleanup exercise in the area,Baharini Community Chairperson Maurice Otieno said they will not sit down and watch as the environement is messed up by a few individuals.
He said they had registered the matter with the county governmnet of Nakuru and that legal measures shall be taken against the individuals.
The residents claim those responsible for the menace are outsiders among them hotels within Nakuru town that dump the waste at night.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Baharini Community Secretary Ezekiel Gitau.
“We are sounding a warning to those who have a habit of dumping waste on the Bondeni Primary fence. We have evidence and we have already launched the same with the county government of Nakuru so that action can be taken”said Maurice.
He also revisited the issue of cleanup contract issuance which had elicited mixed reactions among residents of Bondeni after it emerged that the youths had not been involved in the matter.
According to Maurice, the contract was given to Eldorado Cleaning Company but residents were not consulted. He however added that through the consultations with area MCA,the matter has been addressed and the area youths have been given a sub-contract.
“The former county government of Nakuru gave out a contract to Eldorado firm without consulting youths from this area and it created a conflict. But as we speak now the matter has been addressed and the youths were given a sub contract through an agreement”said Maurice.
Speaking on the same issue,Biashara Ward MCA Peter Njoroge ‘Wanyaguthie’ admitted that indeed there was a conflict after the contract was issued without consulting the locals but the matter had been addressed through a 50-50 agreement.
While revealing that there has been misunderstanding and confusion on what should fall under the environment as far drainage and garbage is concerned ,the Biashara ward MCA said they county assembly is working on a bill that will ensure smoothness in the environment department.
“There was a little conflict as far as garbage collection is concerned but we sat them down and they came to agreement. But also as assembly we are working on a bill to cater for the same.As law makers we should also come up with law to make it clear on the roles of Environment sector and the Trade”he said.
Nominated MCA Zeitun Ibrahim who also joined in the exercise called on residents of Bondeni and Nakuru in general to ensure clean and safe environment for all.
Area MP David Gikaria was also represented in the exercise through Amadi Kahero while Dr.Stanley Karanja who contested the Nakuru East Parliamentary seat but lost to Gikaria also contributed 100 tree seedlings that will be planted in the schools around Bondeni Estate.
