Koigi was born on 18 December 1949 at Rugongo forest in Dundori. His father, Wamwere Kuria and his mother, Wangu Wamwere, used to work in the forest. He was first baptized Johnson Koigi. However, when he joined Mother of apostles Seminary where he wanted to become a catholic priest, he was forced to change his name to Michael. County Moves to Improve Access to Dental Healthcare

The County Government of Nakuru is investing resources towards oral disease prevention and health promotion.
